Succulent Planter
for Object Permanence Ed. III
2019

Object Permanence is a series of short lived design exhibitions curated by Leah Ring and Holland Denvir with intent to highlight local and emerging designers. The third edition of these shows focused on planters and the Casa Perfect provided a wonderful exhibition space for the group show.

These kidney shaped concrete planters were cast in a textile mold made from neoprene.

My intent was to use a material that is relevant to the surroundings, and considering southern California's surfing culture I thought neoprene would make a good material to experiment with.

The results of the cement stretching into the textile mold reminded me very much of the forms of cactus and succulents (another nod to the local biome) and I thought it was only right that they be filled with these type of plants.
